BRANDED CORPORATE GIFT BOXES
Definition: A gift box containing branded promotional merchandise given as a ‘Welcome’, ‘Thank You’ or special promotional gift
Whilst it is possible to find standard gift boxes, it is clearly more personal and better brand promotion to give a gift box containing items which carry the brand and thus reinforce the brand values.
Why a corporate gift box?
There are a few reasons why a gift box may be given but they generally fall into four categories
1. Welcome
Say ‘hello’ to new employees, clients, channel partners or supply chain partners – allow them to feel part of the family, which is your brand,
2. Thankyou
Say ‘thankyou’ for a job well done and going the extra mile or simply for having their business
3. Seasonal gift box
Not just Christmas – for field marketers, consideration should be given to other celebrations, be that Diwali, Eid, Independence Day, Bastille Day or Kings Day
4. VIP Giveaway
Gift boxes can also be used at events and presentations for the VIP – choosing higher value products presented in a box rather than the usual branded giveaway.
What to put in a branded corporate gift box
When considering what should be in a branded corporate gift box there are tens of thousands of products on the market to choose from. When choosing it is best to consider the following:
1. Retention
Branded gifts work for your brand if they are retained. If they are instantly discarded, then this is not only a waste of money but also wasted opportunity which inevitably damages the environment. The plastic pen is likely to end up unused in a drawer.
2. Utility
Allied to retention is how useful the product is – clearly a useful product is more likely to be retained. And a product which is consistently used adds to the brand profile – think water bottle, notebook, charging cables and power banks
3. Brand Alignment
Is your brand high tech, youth and trendy, serious professional – you know your brand. Also, consider issues like the number of colours in the brand. We can help with this, given that some products will not take well to anything more than a single colour logo
4. Audience alignment
You also need to understand the demographic of your audience, their likely interests and what would resonate with them.
5. Be Different
Novelty may add to retention. If everyone gives a notebook then consider a custom notebook with pantone matched elastic and ribbon or internal printed pages – something a bit different
6. Sweets, snacks and food
Popular for Welcome Packs are food items – which can be branded – but be aware of two issues. Food often has a shelf life and if you are planning on sending the packs abroad then be aware of the customs issues you may face exporting food products – we can advise you on this.
7. Personal note
It will cost very little to add a small card in the pack with a welcome or thankyou note. Make it personalised and the value to the recipient rises. Simple, but highly effective
What should the box be like?
1. Cost – brand vs retention
The box itself can be anything from a simple white corrugated box to a high-grade paper over board gift box with magnetic and ribbon closure. The issue of course is how much to spend. A high-quality box gives the wow factor, but will the box be retained. The answer depends on the audience and purpose of the gift box
2. VIP
If it is a VIP, skimping on the presentation box may defeat the object of your gifting
3. Branding
Whatever the quality of the box, it can be printed – or foil blocked – for a relatively small additional cost. Often it is the quality of the box rather than adding a logo which determines the overall cost.
4. Filler materials
Also consider the filler used in the box – a moulded foam insert is very expensive unless the volume is very high. We normally use coloured shredded paper – it can match the brand and is recyclable.
5. Not a box but a bag
Or why not consider no box. We have a couple of clients who give employees Welcome packs. One of the branded items is a laptop bag into which the other items are inserted.
